Solar Vehicle Team
During winter break, the solar team worked hard on building Bevolt.
On the mechanical side, we made substantial headway in finalizing our suspension, specifically focusing on routing our battery cooling system through the car, all while maintaining our current steering and suspension. We are pushing hard to finalize our roll cage and array design.
From an electrical standpoint, the team made significant progress with programming our battery protection system, as well as revamping our telemetry system. A main focus for the beginning of the semester will be finishing the design of the motor control system and the dashboard interface.
In terms of manufacturing, our team worked hard before break to produce our first array modules that will go into Bevolt, as well as spot-weld over half of our battery modules. Manufacturing has been working to sand and glue our body molds, and has already prepared our tub mold for its first fiberglass layup.
Besides working hard on the car, we also dedicated time to ensuring the safety of our members in the workspace. We organized the solar car garage and removed unused cabinets, opening up space for us to optimize our work. During this process, we also made sure that we have enough personal protective equipment for our members that will be working with layups, as well as ensured our first aid kits are stocked up and still effective. Overall, it was a very busy break and we’re looking forward to finishing Bevolt this semester!
